PhotoKit, AVFoundation, and VideoToolbox). Compresso operates no servers capable of receiving or storing your media.1. Media Library Access
Compresso requests permission to access your iOS Photo Library solely to display your photos, Live Photos, and videos inside the app, calculate potential storage savings, write compressed copies back to your library, and move originals you choose to remove into the native iOS Recently Deleted album.
- We never upload, transmit, or back up your photos, videos, or EXIF metadata (such as GPS coordinates) to any external server.
- All compression happens offline on your device’s processor. You can use Compresso in Airplane Mode.
2. Anonymous Diagnostics & Telemetry
To ensure compression reliability across iPhone hardware models and iOS versions, Compresso uses industry-standard, privacy-respecting diagnostic services:
- Crash & Error Reporting (Sentry): Collects technical crash traces and non-fatal encoder error codes (for example,
AVFoundationorPHPhotosErrorDomainstatus codes) so we can fix hardware edge cases. No personal identifiers, filenames, or media content are ever included. - Product Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase): Records aggregate interaction events (such as onboarding completion, number of items compressed, and bytes saved) to help improve app usability.
- Subscription Management (RevenueCat): Validates App Store subscription receipts and trial status using anonymous App Store transaction tokens. We never have access to your credit card or Apple Pay details.
You can switch Sentry and Firebase diagnostics off at any time in the app’s Settings.
3. iCloud Sync, Data Retention & Deletion
Your photos and videos stay in your Photo Library; Compresso never copies them anywhere. The one thing the app syncs is your swipe progress (your keep / compress / delete decisions per month), through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) so it comes back after a reinstall. That data lives in your iCloud account, tied to your Apple ID, and is not readable by the developer. It stays in your iCloud storage until you remove it in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.
Everything else (compression history, caches, settings) is stored locally on your device, so uninstalling Compresso removes it. Any photos or videos deleted through Compresso are placed in the system iOS Recently Deleted album, where iOS retains them for 30 days before permanent removal.
4. This Website
This website uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits, page language, and taps on App Store links. Analytics cookies stay off until you press Accept on the banner. If you press Decline (or ignore it), Google Analytics sets no cookies and receives only cookieless, aggregate pings. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage on this site and nowhere else.
